Gandhi Jayanti- Gandhi Jayanti is a National event, Indians celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of Nation “Mahatma Gandhi”. We Indians, celebrate "Gandhi Jayanthi"  annually in October 2nd marked by prayer and tribute across India. Special prayers are held at Gandhiji’s Memorial Rajghat in New Delhi where he was cremated.

 

Gandhi Jayanthi is one of the three National Holidays of India. National activities, Painting, and Essay competitions are also conducted on this day. To encourage non-violence best awards granted for the participants of the schools and the community. To honor our Father of Nation, statues of Mahatma Gandhiji are decorated with flowers and garlands everywhere, avoid drinking alcohol and eating meat, his favourite Bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’, sung by the people. October 2nd is declared as International Day of Non-Violence by UN General Assembly.

Guru Ramdas Jayanthi- Guru Ram Das Jayanthi celebrated by Sikhs all around the world. This is the Birthday of 4th of the 10 Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das. He is the founder of Amritsar city.  On this auspicious day, Sikhs involve in prayers in Gurudwaras to pay respect to their Guru. Gurudwaras will be decorated with lights, flowers, and the hymn will be performed by a group of local singers to make this day attractive and divine. There will be huge Langars (Prasad which is fed to devotees in Sikh Gurudwaras). Also feed the poor and needy people, outside their home.

On Indian Art Festival (IAF) introduce artworks including paintings, sculptures, drawing, installations photographs, and editions as well as Video and digital art is done by 1000 of artists and will be displayed by various galleries. The main intention of this IAF is to bring attention to the great and talented art spaces and to exhibit, encourage buying.

Vetticode Aayilyam FestivalAyilyam Mahotsavam celebrated annually at the Sree Nagaraja Swami Temple,Vettikode in Alappuzha District. 7 days Before Ayilyam asterism it is celebrated with festive and special rituals. On this day ceremonial procession from the ancient Brahman home Meppallil illam. In the evening there will be ‘Sarpabali’( ritual related Snakes) performed to please the Serpent Gods.

Bathukamma Festival Floral Festival- Bathukamma is Floral Festival that celebrated annually on Mahalaya Amavasi or Pitru Amavasya of Hindu Calendar ( Septemeber – October in Gregorian calendar) in Telengana and some parts of Andhra Pradesh. It is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navratri. In 2020 the day falls on 17th October. It is a nine days celebration. October 17th - 24th October 


Bathukamma is a festival of the cultural spirit of Telangana. Bathukamma is a beautiful flower stack with seven layers in the shape of a gopuram temple decorated with seasonal flowers with medicinal value and unique flowers. ‘Bathukamma’, in Telugu means ‘Mother Goddess come Alive’. Goddess Maha Gouri Devi is worshipped in the form of Bathukamma.

 

On this auspicious and divine day, women wake up early in the morning dressed up in traditional saris, with the matching jewels. Teenage girls also wear half saree with traditional jewelry and all of them get ready with the traditional grace of the attire. Do special prayers and participate in this Bathukamma Festival.



Navarathri Festival

Navaratri- Navarathri is a Hindu Festival celebrated annually in the month of September and October all Over the states in India in various names and cultures to honor the divine Goddess Devi (Durga). It is celebrated as per Hindu Calender on the month of the bright half of  Ashwin.  Nav means “9”, ‘Rathri’ means ‘Night’. It is a long nine days9 (10 nights ) Festival considered as a great Hindu Festival in every state of India. It is also called Durga Puja, Dussehra, etc. On each side of India the story of the Festival also various, but yes the theme of the story is one and only is “Victory of Good over Evil”.


Eastern and Northern States of India Navarathri is known as ”DURGA PUJA” Festival is considered as Goddess Durga battles and achieve the victory over the demon buffalo and restore Dharma ( good deed). In the Northern and Western States this a festival is known as ‘DUSSEHRA’, celebrates and performs Ram Lila, battle, and victory of Lord Rama over the Demon King Ravana. The victory of different goddesses, Lord Rama or Saraswati is celebrated in the Southern States of India.


On this nine days celebration decorated stages, legend recital, Hindu scriptures chanting, story enacting are included. Many states participated in the Pandal decoration competitions.  Classical and devotional fold dances and programs are held on decorated stages. Nine days of public places in every state will be crowded with people in the morning and evening. Vijayadashami or Dussehra considers as the final day of the Navarathri, Goddess Statues, which was worshiped by the devotees on these 9 days are taken to immerse in water like lakes, sea, river, etc with the huge procession along with the divine dances and songs. In some states, the evil statue will be burnt with fireworks.

Navarathri Sangeetholsavam- Navarathri Music Festival conducted every year in the Navarthri Mandapam at East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala in India. It is a nine-day music festival. On Sept-Oct Month Navarthri held all over India. In 2020 it falls on 17th Oct - 26th Oct. This festival performed along with the Navarathri Festival. In this music fiesta, you will be experienced with the main features of ‘’KRITIS’’, (Compositions) of Swathi Thirunal, legendary composer and the former ruler of Travancore. 

You will be surprised with the look of the venue, with well-decorated earthen pots of various sizes and shapes on the ceiling hanging towards facing the ground. Oil lamps are lighted on the stage to get the full bloom and magnificent attraction. 


Bommai Kolu Festival

Bommai Kolu Festival- Navaratri Bommai Kolu is celebrated during Navaratri days which fall in 2020 is 17 the of October This Festival  especially celebrated in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Bommai Golu is the festival to display dolls and figures of God and related things in South India during the Navaratri Festival time. These figures typically give us the concept of narration of the Hindu legend stories. These are also known as  KOLU, GOMBE HABBA, BOMMAI KOLU OR BOMMALA KOLUVU. These dolls of golu made from clay by the rural artists, they decorate with vibrant paintings on the Dolls. During this festival, people do family visits, distribute gifts, share food, play devotional music, and sing together. 

Literally Bommai Golu festival is the part of Hindu festival Navaratri. Navaratri is the famous Hindu festival of worshipping the Goddess Mother of the victory on evil, is celebrated in different ways in every state in India. In Tamil Nadu, Bommai Golu means divine presence, in Telugu BOMMALA KOLUVU means Court of Toys while in Kannada BOMBE HABBA means Doll Festival

Karni Mata Temple- Karni Mata Festival celebrated every year in October at Karni Mata Temple located in 30km from Bikaner, in Rajasthan. India. In 2020 Karni Mata Festival falls on 17th October. This temple is well known as ‘Temple of Rats ’. Here Rats are believed as divine. Approximately 25,000 black rats living in this temple are treated well. For this specialty people from around the world are reaching here for blessing, pay their respects, and to see the wonder of the Temple.


The festival organized twice a year, once in March-April and second in September – October with great love, discipline, and joy and everyone participate in it. Karni Mata festival is dedicated to the divine Karni Mata for her kindness to the poor.

Mysore Dussehra- Mysore Dasara celebrates annually in Mysore, Karnataka in India. This is a 10 day and 9-nights festival called Navarathri. Navarathri festival celebrated in the Hindu month of Ashwin. In the Gregorian calendar in the month of September and October. This year Navarathri falls on 17th October to 26th October. 

10th day of Dasara "Vijayadashami" is celebrated as the victory of good over evil. In Mysore, believed that the Goddess Chamundeshwari (Durga) killed the demon Mahishasura. Mysore got the name from this Goddess. At this auspicious festival, the city will be lighted and decorated with its full swing and people enjoy the festival in its peek. Mysore palace will be fully lighted on these types of special festivals. The ceremony presided by the King of Mysore will be displayed the state sword, weapons, elephants, horses along with the Hindu Devi Goddess in her warrior attire and also Lord Rama ( Avatar of Lord Vishnu).

Thithal Beach Festival- Thithal Beach Festival celebrated every year in Tithal Beach in Valsad on the coast of the Arabian Sea in the state of Gujarat. Tithal Beach is one of the most popular attractions of tourists from all over the world. Shree Swaminarayan Temple near the Tithal Beach is famous and also a tourist attraction.  In this beach Aquatic Sports like Spee Boats, Jet Ski etc have been started recently. On Thithal Beach shore Thithal Beach Festival and the popular International Kite Festival are organized annually. The color of the sand in the Thithal Beach you can see Black.

Durga Puja-  Durga Puja is also known as Durgotsava is  celebrated every year in West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Tripura, Bihar, and Jharkhand and also in the country of Bangladesh and in Nepal too. They give this festival name Dashin. This festival celebrated in the Hindu month of Ashwan, as Gregorian Calendar September-October. This is10 Day festivals celebrated at home and also in public places. Public places these days will be so crowded with the devotees who are involved in visiting the temporary built stages and structural decorations, (Pandals) in which Deity kept. Artists do perform on stages, gift-giving, family visits, feasting, and also public processions happen on this divine day. Competition on best Pandal also conducted. Huge money spent on these pandals to win the competition.

 

Durga Puja marks the victory of Goddess Durga on the demon Mahishasura. The theme of the festival is ‘VICTORY OF GOOD OVER EVIL’. The primary The Goddess of this festival is Durga, even though other major deities such as Goddess of Wealth – Lakshmi, the Goddess of Knowledge, Music- Saraswati, the God of good beginnings- Ganesha, the God of War-Kartikeya also are included in the Puja.

Dussehra- Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashami, Dasara, Dashin, etc. Dussehra is an important Hindu festival which is celebrated on the 10th day of the Navrathri. This happens in the Hindu month Ashwin or Kartik. In Gregorian Calendar falls from September – October. This year it falls on 25th October. Vijaya Dashami celebrates various types in almost all the states in India. In each state on the 10th day of Navarathri Vijayadashami celebrates. The theme of Every state is one and only ‘VICTORY OF GOD ON DEVIL’.


On Vijaya Dashami day attractive procession is held to immerse the clay statues of the Deity of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswathi, Ganesha , and Kartikeya. On this procession colourful dances, devotional songs are performed by the devotees throughout the way to reach the water body like River, Lake, Sea, etc, where the Deity to be immersed for destruction.  In Northern India on this day build huge tower size effigies of Ravan, the Symbol of Evil will be burnt with fireworks by enjoying the destruction of the evil. 


Vijayadasami is celebrated in a different way in South India, especially in Kerala. They consider this festival as a day of widening the importance of education. Children who have not yet been enrolled in the school will be attending the Vijayadashami Pooja in order to kick start their first step in writing ("Vidyarambam", ''Vidya'' means Education, ''Arambam'' means Beginning). The child is asked to sit on the lap of the person who performs the pooja in front of Saraswati Devi. He makes the child write 'Ohm Shri Ganapataye Namah' in a salver filled with rice.


It is believed that by performing this ritual children abundantly receive the blessings of Mata Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge.  While Previous nights students keep their study materials and musical instruments in front of Saraswathi to get a blessing in their studies. On the Vijayadashami day students take out the books from Puja and have to read a little bit, to get the blessing of the Goddess of Education in their studies and Music for the upcoming days. 

Kota Dussehera

Kota Dussehera- Dussehera the well-known Hindu festival celebrated across India, the same festival celebrates in Kota, Rajasthan is an entirely different way. This actually in the form of Mela or Fair. It is a month-long celebration with its extravaganza. Thousands of surrounding villages are rushed to Kota to participate and experience the colorful bloom of the fair.

 

On Vijayadashami day selected members of the royal family do shoots an arrow towards the effigy which built by the people especially to destroy with the arrow. It depicts the destruction of evil in the form of Ravana.  To witness this approximately 1 lac of people gathered here from all over the world. Cultural programs performed by great artists are followed by the Vijayadashami day.


This Kota Dussehra fair commences soon after the blaze of Ravan, Meghnath, and Kumhakarna the effigies that are filled with fireworks.


The key attraction of the Fair is its competitions. There will be various competitions of Mustache and Turban, Chambal Kesri wrestling competitions, Mehendi, Rangoli, Mandana, etc. are organized. Special delicacies are given more attraction to the fair. Special foods like Nasrabad ka kachori and Pannalal Ke Pakode can be experienced to taste.

 

Exhibitions, shopping, crazy rides all together make the Kota Dussehra Fair more attractive.

Kullu Dussehra-  Kullu Dussehra is celebrated in Himachal Pradesh in the month of October. On the tenth day of the rising moon, Dussehra at Kully commences. It is a seven-day long festival celebrated in the Dhalpur Maidan in the Kullu Valley. A very long legend story is there behind the Kullu Dussehra. In short of the story local King Jagat Singh installed Raghunath idol on his throne, afterward, god Raghunath was declared as The deity of the Kullu Valley. Kullu Dussehra Fair attracts massive tourists from across the Globe.

Tawang Festival- Tawang Festival is celebrated annually in October month by the tribal community of Arunachal Pradesh at Tawang Hill Station. It is a three-day-long festival conducted by the Tourism Department of Arunachal Pradesh. India. This year Tawang Festival date falls on 26th- 29th October 2020. 


Different Tribes who live in the Tawang hill station is celebrating this festival. The main trib is the Monpas Tribal community. They welcome the tourists with respect and with their culture. The procession commences followed by the religious tradition which is known as ‘SEBANG’’, which means “Monks of Tawang town travel to the Hill station, where the festival held by rallies from the Tawang Monastery”

 


Rajasthan International Folk Festival

Rajasthan International Folk Festival- Rajasthan International Folk Festival or Jodhpur Folk Festival is celebrated every year at Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur – Rajasthan - India.  This is a famous Music and Art Festival, especially held to promote Rajasthani traditional fold Music and Royal Culture. This festival conducts on Full Moon Day of the month in October. Which is known as “Sharad Purnima”.  This festival provides an open stage to perform for all great and talented Folk Artists and for Renowned Musicians gathered from the State and around the States.

Kojagari Purnima- Kojagari Purnima celebrated on the Hindu month Ashwin in September-October. Kojagiri Purnima also known as Sharad Purnima, Kumara Purnima, Navanna Purnima, or Kaumudi Purnima. It as basically a harvest festival celebrated in Odisha- India. This year Kojagari Purnima falls on 30th October 


On this day unmarried women do fasting keeping the belief that they will get a suitable groom for them. This is also called as Kojagara Vrata. On the starting day at sunrise, God of Sun worshipped by the maidens with a vessel made of coconut-leaf (Kula) filled with fried paddy with 7 fruit coconut, banana, cucumber, bête nut sugar cane, guava, and do Aarti. In the evening they can break their fast by consuming the dish made from the fried paddy, which was kept for Sun Puja along with fruits, curd, and jaggery. Also, worship Moon God before “Tulsi Plant.” Maidens enjoy and involve in singing and play gamed under the full Moon. Lakshmi the God of wealth is worshipped mainly on this day. The days consider as her Birthday. Lord Indra, the God of Rains, carry on his elephant called “Airavata”, and Lord Shiva with Parvati and Carrier Nandi too.

Halloween- Halloween is celebrated every year in the month of October in Europe and most of North America. (in Many Countries) “Halloween”, the word derived from “Hallows’ Eve”,’Allhalloween’, ‘All Hallows’  Eve”, or “All Saint’ Eve”, . In North America, Halloween considers as non-religious. Halloween festival is originated from the "Festival of Samhain"" among the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland. Legend belief that during the Samhain festival the souls of died were to return to visit their homes and who had died during the year were travel to other worlds.


On this day activities like trick-or-treating, appear in Halloween costumes, carving a pumpkin into jack-o-lanterns, apple bobbling, types of divine games, do pranks, tells scary stories, watching horror films as well as visiting haunted places. On this tradition day, some chiristain abstained from meat and eat vegetarian food such as apples, potato pancakes, and soul cakes. Do visit church, lights a candle on the tombstone of the dead. The witches, hobgoblins, fairies, and demons came to be associated with the day.

Kabir Yatra- Kabir Yatra conducted in October organized by Lokayan in partnership with Rajasthan Tourism Of Corporation and Rajasthan Police. This year. Kabir Yatra is not an annual Festival. So in 2020 when it is going to conduct information yet to looked upon Rajasthan Tourism’s Website. Kabir Yatra is a musical gala to celebrate the Bhakti and Sufi Saint Poet’s ( Kabir, Mira, Bulleh Shah, etc.) teachings and philosophies. It is 5-6 days long Yatra. 


The main aim of this festival is to promote love and harmony, so as can eradicate all obstacles of caste, class, religion, and identity. This Yatra (Journey) happens around the places in Rajasthan cities like Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer. It is such a famous and popular music concert great singers and artists from Rajasthan and from across India come to perform, to enhance the spirit of Bhaktism and Sufism.  You can experience the unique arts and crafts, sculptures, and paintings done by great artists also.

Ashwa Puja- Ashwa Pooja is performed mainly in Udaipur, Rajasthan annually to honor the animal horse, which is considered as the symbol of royalty, power prosperity, strength, and wealth. Horse considered as the vehicle of the King of Planets, the Sun. because the Sun is related to this festival. Especially on Akshaya Tritiya, the day of royalty and wealth day Ashwar Puja is conducted. 


By doing this puja believed that goddess Lakshmi's grace of her face on the horse can be acquired by performing the Ashwa Puja. So as to receive the blessing of abundance, prosperity. That is why this puja conducts on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya.
