Bonderam Festival |
Bonderam Festival- Bonderam Festival celebrated
in August. In 2020 Bonderam falls on 22nd
August. Every year on the fourth Saturday
Bonderam Festival celebrates. This is a traditional flag festival of Goa,
celebrated in Divar Island, 12 kilometers from Panaji.
This is actually a reminder of olden times property disputes of the
village. On this day they put flats to put boundary marks. Mock fights and
carnival with street parades are held on this celebration. Joyous huge parades
are held with loud music. People from around the world gathered in Goa to enjoy
Bonderam Festival.
Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race |
Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race celebrated on August 8, 2020. This Boat race is
celebrated on the memory of India’s Late Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru. This Boat Race is an exciting one celebrated in Kerala, India. It is
held in the Punnamada Lake, Alleppey in Kerala. On the day of Kerala visit of
the Prime Minister in 1952 Snake shaped Boat Race held to give him hearty
welcome.
He was so impressed with the welcome, and the trophy for the winner was
awarded by him. Afterward, this Boat Race named Nehru Trophy Boat Race and
still continuing every year on the second Saturday of August. Number of 70
boats have participated in this boat race. This is one of the enormous
attraction of Kerala. Tourists are reached from all over the world to enjoy
this boat race.
Krishna Janmashtami |
- Krishna Janmashtami (Krishan Janmashtami_means, the birthday of Lord Krishna. This festival celebrated on 11-12 August 2020. The eighth incarnation
of Lord Maha Vishnu, considered as Sri Krishna. Birth of divine Krishana is
celebrated in Mumbai and in many states of India in full swing. The second-day
people celebrate “Dahi Handi”, Handi means clay pot. Believed that Krishna’s
favorite food is Curd and Butter. To honor Lord Krishna people filled the
Handi with Curd, Butter, and Money strung up high from buildings and youngsters,
who have been called Govinadas creates Human Pyramid to reach the Handi and
break it to open. This is considered a pleasure game. Categorized Team will
be there to participate in this divine game.
Patriot’s Day |
Patriot’s Day: Patriot’s Day is celebrated on August 13 Every year. This day is
celebrated in Manipur in tribute to soldiers who fought for our freedom.
Independence Day |
Independence Day- Independence The day is celebrated all over India on 15th August. This is the day Indians got freedom from British Rulers. Many great people had to sacrifice their lives to give us freedom from the British. On this day functions are held in Red Fort, Delhi, where Prime Minister Jawarhala Nehru hoisted the flag of India on the Independence day In August 15, 1947. every year on 15 August in the presence of current Prime Ministers Indian Army and paramilitary forces march past, kite flying, and all cultural programs are conducted and a flat hoist ceremony will be done by current PM along with his speech.
Parsi New Year |
Parsi New Year- Parsi New Year
is celebrated on 16th August this year 2020. It is a regional
holiday all over India. Jamshedi Navroz, King of Persia, who started the Parsi
Calendar considered as Parsi New Year. This festival falls on Spring Equinox in
21 March, but Indian Parsi Community celebrates in July or in August as per Shahenshahi
Calendar. Though this festival was
celebrated by Zoroastrianism followers in Persia and originated in Persia, it
is celebrated by Indians with the same spirit.
Chingapulari-
Chingam, the first month of the
Malayalam Calendar, considered as an auspicious month for Keralites. In this month
people visit temples, there will be special pujas, keep the house clean, dispose of all unwanted things, buy new vehicles, do house warming ceremony, even to start
investment is also this month considered as a great time. Harvest month is
followed by Chingam. This year Chingam falls on August 17.
Islamic New Year /Al-Hijra /Muharram
Jhapan- Jhapan is a snake
festival, celebrated in 17th August in the western region of West
. The word “JHAPAN” means a stage set up to perform tricks with the
snakes. This is actually called “Jhapan Mela”, Snake charmers bring King Cobras
and lot types of other snakes and do wonderful performances with them. It is a
tribal festival, celebrating in the honor of the serpent Goddess Manasa,
daughter of Lord Shiva. In the midst of August, this festival happens. People pray
goddess for good rainfall for their bountiful harvest.
Tarnetar Fair – Tarnetar Fair is celebrated from August 21-23 in Surendranagar district of Gujarat. This fair is celebrated in the temple of Triniteshwar Mahadev, its another name of Lord Shiva. This festival celebrated by the tribal communities. On this day men and animals are well-decorated forms and in colorful attire, we can visualize. The fair commences just before Ganesh Chathurthi Day. On this day many programs like dare-devil stunts, folk dances, carnival rides are performed by the tribal community. There will be a lot of stalls of handicraft made by tribes of the village.
Teej Festival- There are three types of Teej festivals celebrated in India. Haryali Teej, Karjari Teej, and Harthalika Teej. This celebration considers the celebration of married and unmarried girls.
Harthalika Teej Festival 2020 date falls on August 21, celebrated mainly in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and in many other western and the Northern States in India. This festival considers as the festival of married women, also known as monsoon festival. It is celebrated to honor the union of Lord Shiva and wife Goddess Parvati. Married women do prayers for the blessing of Paravati. On the thirds day after the new moon and thirds, day after the full moon of every month refers to “Teej”.
On Harthalika Teej, Ladies do quick the entire day and night and next morning spruce up and prepare in completely customary clothing, particularly Sari in Red Color, and wear conventional trimmings to revere Goddess Parvati. Orchestrate swings on trees and appreciate the swing, this is really an elevating celebration for wedded ladies. Married young ladies get gifts from their parents in law and from their own moms. Gifts comprise of henna, bangles, garments, blossoms, decorations, desserts, and so on.
Women do fast all day and night and next morning freshen up and get ready in fully traditional attire, especially Sari in Red Colour, and wear traditional ornaments to worship Goddess Parvati. Arrange swings on trees and enjoy the swing, this is actually an uplifting festival for married women. Married girls receive gifts from their in-laws and from their own mothers. Gifts consist of henna, bangles, clothes, flowers, ornaments, sweets, fruits, etc.
Chakradhar Samaroh- Chakradhar Samaroh will be celebrated from 22nd
August – 1st September 2020 in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh- India. This is
a 10-day long classical music and dance festival in honor of great musician and
King Chakradhar Singh. He contributed
many books on music and dance to India and one more great thing that he is the
one who formed the famous Kathak Dance. On this Chakradhar Samaroh, many
talented artists from all over India gathered to Chhattisgarh to perform at the
festival. On this auspicious occasion, there will be the light and sound show for
the visitors.
Athachamayam- Athachamayam is celebrated in
Tirpunithura, Kerala State- India during the beginning day of 10-day Onam
Festival. To welcome the Onam Days people conduct Athamachamyam with a colorful
street parade, accompanied by elephants-fully decorated, floats, great
musicians, and various Kerala cultural arts. This colorful procession
represents the march of Kochi Maharaja from Tripupnithura to Vamanamoorthy
Temple in Thrikkakara ( considers the origin place of Onam)
Athachamyam festival starts in the Atham asterism in “Chingam” Malayalam Month every year. Followed with this festival Onam begins and on the 10th day, Thiruvonam will be celebrated all over in Kerala.
Ganesh Chaturthi Festival- Ganesh Chaturthi Festival celebrated in 22nd
August – 1st September 2020. This festival celebrated to honor the
Hindu God Lord Ganesha. Who has elephant head On this festival, we can see well-decorated colorful huge statues and podiums of Ganesh everywhere in the
city. Mostly this festival is celebrated in Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. People bring beautiful Ganesh to home and at the end of the
festival, these statues are taken to submerge in the ocean. This is called ‘VISARJAN’,
on this day these Ganesh statues are paraded through the village and road,
accompanied by the people engaged in singing and dancing, and finally do
visarjan in the ocean, pond or river. The real color of the festival you can
be visualized in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Madras Day – Madras
Day is celebrated on 16-23 August in Chennai. It is a week-long celebration. Behind
the reason for this festival commemorates the founding of the city of Madras.
Later Madras' name changed to Chennai. At this festival there will be heritage
processions, food melas, photo exhibitions, and bike tours. People celebrate
this day in full enjoyment.
Ayyankali Jayanthi- Ayyankali Jayanthi is
celebrated in Kerala annually on 28th August. This festival is a commemoration
of the birth of the well known social reformer Ayyankali. He did protest
against the untouchability of the low caste tribes of Kerala. His efforts finally
succeeded and the rights for the lower- caste granted and Government forced to
accept his demands for giving the education to lower- caste people and could stop
untouchability for them, allowed clothes for lower-caste women. He was the most
famous Dalit Leader of modern Kerala.
Teja Jayanthi- Teja Jayanthi is celebrated in Rajasthan on 28th August every year. Tejaji or Veer Teja is also a Rajasthani folk deity. He was considered as the 11 incarnations of Shiva.
Baba Ramadev Jayanthi- Baba Ramdev's Jayanthi celebrated in Rajasthan on
28th August every year. Baba Ramdev is a Hindu folk deity. He was fourteen
century’s ruler, had miraculous power. People considered him as an incarnation of
God Krishna. The life he devoted to the poor people, always he fight for the
down-trodden people to uplift. On this birthday fair is held in the temple of
Ramdev. Hindu, as well as Muslim, devotes also participate in the celebration.
Teja Jayanthi- Teja Jayanthi is celebrated in Rajasthan on 28th August every year. Tejaji or Veer Teja is also a Rajasthani folk deity. He was considered as the 11 incarnations of Shiva.
Taziya Procession- Taziya Procession is
conducted on the 10th day of Muharram. This festival is celebrated
in Udaipur, Rajasthan- India on 29th August. This is the last day of Muharram knows as Ashura.
On this day Sunni Muslims of Rajasthan take tazhiyas, it means the coffins of
the death on the procession of the day and it will be immersed at Lake Pichola.
This festival considers as the martyrdom
of Hazrat Imam Hussain, he is the
grandson of the Holy Prophet.
Karam Festival- Karam Festival celebrated 29th august 2020. It is
an harvest festival celebrated mainly in Jharkand by Baiga, Oraon, Binjhwari and
Majhwar tribes of the state. In Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhatisgarh also celebrate this festival.
Karam Tree (Nauclea
Parva) is an evergreen tree considered as the symbol of fertility and
prosperity. Colour ful traditional dances are held. Dancers carry the branch of
Karam tree while singing and dancing. Then smeared with milk and rice beer,
branch will raised and around the branch dance perform.
Onam / Thiruvonam Festival- Onam is celebrated in
Kerala state, India. This year 2020 Onam date falls on August 31st It is considered as harvesting festival, belief
that mythical demon King Mahabali coming home to visit his people.
Onam
Celebrated in Malayalam month Chingam. This month is the first month of the Malayalam
calendar, celebrates as Malayalam NewYear. The Rashi named Atham 1 Onam
celebration starts followed by Athachmayam. In Tripunithura Athachamayam
celebrates in full swing with the colourful procession. On the 10th day
of Atham Thiruvonam celebrate.
Thiruvonam celebration reflects the culture and
tradition of Kerla in its most originality and unique way. From Atham day 1
Keralites start putting Pookalam (Flower carpet) on their front side of the
house (Aangan). The first day starts with one colour, day by day increases the
colors and final day on Thiruvonam , pookalam will be with 10 colors of
flowers. This is the day Malayalis considers as welcoming Mahabali to visit
them. Traditional sadhya prepare in every home.
