It is celebrated annually as a tribute to India’s First Prime Minister who is fondly known as Chacha Nehru among children. He is the one who initiated to fulfill children to have educated. He considered children are real strength and foundation of society. Children’s day celebration is intended to increase the awareness of the rights, care, and education of children.

In the early period prior to Pandit Nehru’s death, children’s day was celebrated on November 20, but after his death, his birth anniversary was decided to be celebrated as Children's day all over in India.
