Equinox Day begins with the traditional ritual of "Kanikanal", where an elder member of the family gets up and prepares an offering of opulent items during Brahma Muhurta. This offering consists of rice, flowers, betel leaves, coins, and a golden image of Krishna. The offering is then arranged in a special manner on a plate, which is placed in front of a tail mirror with a lamp.

The next event is the grand feast preparations. "Sadya" is also a time of feasting and celebration. "Sadya" means a traditional Vishu Sadya consisting of a variety of dishes including rice, sambar, avial, toran, and countless other dishes and stews. This grand vegetarian feast is prepared and served on a banana leaf, a symbol of Kerala's rich cultural heritage.

Another important ritual of Vishu is "Vishukaineetam", in which gifts and tokens of good fortune are exchanged between friends and family members. As a symbol of love and blessings to the younger members of the family, it is customary for elders to give Vishukani fruits or money as Vishukaineetam.

Vishu is a celebration that brings out the unity and diversity of the people of Kerala. It is the time when people come together to celebrate the cultural heritage and values acquired through their respective families. Any festival is an auspicious celebration of new beginnings and the promise of a brighter future.

One of his childhood pleasures was crackers, which he blew on the night before Vishu. As we got older and became more aware of environmental, health, and safety risks, most of us began to abandon this tradition. But old memories still make me laugh

In conclusion, Vishu is a harvest festival of great importance to the people of Kerala. It is a divine time to gather to celebrate the beginning of this new year, seek blessings from the Gods, and feast with friends and family. • How to Prepare the Vishu Kani?

Preparation of Vishukani is an important part of Vishu Utsav which is celebrated in Kerala and some other parts of South India for the new year. Here I will tell you in detail how to prepare traditional Vishukani

First, clean and decorate the room where you are going to put it. For that, it is better to use the puja room or the room where the family deity is enshrined.

Place a large mirror in the center of the room and decorate it with fresh flowers, especially the yellow "KANIKKONNA" (Cassia fistula), which is considered auspicious for Vishu.

Place a 'URULI' (traditional bell metal pot) filled with clean water in front of the mirror.

In uruli, arrange untouched rice, cucumber, pumpkin, coconut, banana, jackfruit, betel nut, saffron, and other seasonal fruits and vegetables. You can add gold coins or jewelry to the arrangement and also add a new outfit. Similarly, as a dessert, Keralites cook "Neyyappam", "Unniyappam" and "Ada" the day before. All that will be a feast for the eyes.

How to Prepare Vishu Kani?

Keep a Brass Lamp (Nila Vilakku- Stand Lamp) near the Kani.

You can place a Hindu holy book (Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, or others) near the Kani.

The kani, which is prepared the night before Vishu, is usually kept so that it can be seen by the other members of the household in the morning.

In the morning, the family gets up early, takes a bath, and wears new clothes. The elder of the family guides the rest of the family to watch the Kani, and everyone goes to watch the Kani with their eyes closed. When they open their eyes, the first thing they see in the morning is a mite.

The important idea behind Vishu Kani is to start the new year with positivity, blessings, and luck. Items in Kani represent prosperity and happiness. This auspicious Vishu is a time for every family to come together, celebrate the beginning of a new year, and seek blessings for the coming year.

It is considered auspicious to see Vishukani first before seeing another object or person. That is why usually the elders take the other family members of the house to the room where the Vishukani is kept with their eyes closed so that as soon as they enter the room they open their eyes and see the Vishukani.

In short, the tradition of seeing Vishukani on Vishu morning is a way to start the New Year with positivity, blessings, and luck.
